Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you no longer give tax advice?
I became disillusioned with the process, the research and the environment in which I was required to provide tax advice. I wrote a detailed account of how and when I realised my disillusionment meant that I had to stop being a tax adviser. Taxation magazine published this as a lead article in July 2008. Both the editor and I received much in the way of supportive feedback form others who quite understood and wished they had the courage to do the same as I.
I blogged about the article in a post titled: Why I gave up giving tax advice.
So what exactly do you do now?
Sorry. There is no ‘exactness’ about it. At different times and for different people I do all the things noted in the header of this website. Does that make me a consultant? An author? An editor? A non-exec director? A speaker? A trainer? A tax policy spokesman? A key account manager?
I’m certainly available for all such roles and to provide value for money strategic insights and advice for organisations and publishers I respect and admire.
So you have a portfolio career?
At the moment – yes I do. I’m also Chairman of the Tax Advice Network which has grown to become the UK’s largest network of vetted independent specialist tax advisers and has over 2,000 registered users.
