Hi Mark,
A good read as always.

It's interesting how many people in all walks of life think an accountant can advise them on every aspect of their business.

There are some exceptional accountants out there, I had one myself about 15 years ago and there was not a bad bit of advice ever spoken. Every time he added - whether you take my advice or not is down to you, I will not make anyone take my advice, get second and third opinions. In his case, his advice was sound and backed up with second and third opinions. His death was a shock to his clients, me included.

I have also had an accountant who lasted precisely a year, I fired him when he billed me for work that had already been paid by direct debit, my logic being if he cannot keep his own accounts straight - he isn't doing a good job with mine. What if someone just paid the bills thinking as an accountant he must be right? What other advice had he given to people?

Anyways, good reading and merry Christmas.
